What is mold and where it can be found?.

Mold are microscopic organisms that are found virtually everywhere, indoors and outdoors. Mold can be found on plants, food, dry leaves, and other organic material. Mold spores are easily detached made airborne by vacuuming, walking on a carpet or even sitting on a couch. In indoor environments, mold can grow on sheet rock, ceiling tiles, air conditioning ducts, carpets, and other personal property.

How can mold affect your health?.

Exposure to mold is not healthy for anyone. The following individuals are at a higher risk for adverse health effects: infants, children, elderly, immune compromised patients, pregnant women, and individuals with existing respiratory conditions. When inhaled, even in small amounts, mold can cause a wide range of health problems including respiratory problems (wheezing), nasal and sinus congestion, watery and red eyes, nose and throat irritation, skin irritation, aches and pains, fevers, asthma emphysema, and in some cases, even death.

Mold Inspections and Sampling.

Mold sampling has become a standard practice during home inspections, with good reason. You should not buy a home with mold, sell a home with mold or live in a home with mold. Indoor environmental testing is just as important as any other portion of the home inspection. A professional mold inspection will determine if there is visible mold in the home by performing a swab or tape lift sample. Air samples will determine if the mold spores have become airborne. In order to prepare an accurate scope of remediation work and a cost estimate, it is imperative to determine if the indoor air quality has elevated levels of mold in comparison to the outside air. Professional testing is highly recommended.
